Home for the Holidays....

A new home that is. So, the only two people who read this blog already know this, but we have moved. We are Texans again and loving it. Needless to say, I have been pretty busy with getting settled in our new home; but it feels as if we have been living here for many years.

I also have other things to keep me pretty occupied.....Family. I have seen family and friends every weekend since we have been here. The best part of all is having the opportunity to see this little guy several times a week as he lives only ten minutes away.

We are having the in-laws over on Saturday and my family Christmas Eve. So much celebrating and a lot to be thankful for this Christmas. So, may you and your family find peace and happiness this holiday season!

My baby brother is 30!

I remember when he came home from the hospital. He was born on Father's Day in 1976. He was the best Father's Day present my dad will ever receive.

I remember when he had Fozzie Bear with him in the hospital to have his tonsils taken out. I remember when he learned to ride his cute little Schwinn. I remember when he was scared of Halloween masks. I remember when we almost left him at Cracker Barrel while on vacation. I remember when he wore Jamz riding his skateboard. I remember when he got busted for sneaking out. I remember when he graduated from high school and then later graduated from the electrical apprenticeship program. I remember when he called to tell me the test was positive and he was going to be a dad.

Being seven years apart, I have some really cute memories of my little bro'. Back in about the early 80s, my dad was putting new linoleum in the kitchen. All the windows in the house were open so that the fumes from the glue would not make us sick. My brother was all boy and got in some sort of trouble and was sent to his room. The next thing my dad knew, my brother was outside running around. How could that be? He had to go through the kitchen in order to get out of his room. After inspecting my brother's room, he was even in more trouble. With tears streaming down my brother's five-year-old face, my brother says, "Dad, I was just bein' the Incredible Hulk." There was a pin hole in my brother's screen that he ripped wide open in order to get outside and play. We all couldn't help but laugh. Guess what my brother was that year for Halloween!

We are from two separate generations. When I was in high school, he was just starting public school. A high school friend had just moved back to the states from Okinawa and had given me some Bazooka gum in which the cartoon was written in Japanese. Picking on my baby brother as siblings do, I told my brother if he chewed the gum, he would be able to speak Japanese like me. Of course, I was faking. He kept chewing and chewing and couldn't understand why he was not speaking Japanese and started crying. We still laugh about that! Sorry Jess!

He's the only son, my only sibling, and the best brother! He's really a cool guy and an incredible dad (pun intended). So, here's to you Chuy on your 30th Birthday. Thanks for being Parker's dad and most of all thanks for the wonderful memories. May the next 30 years be even better than the last. Love, your big sister!

Missing scarf

This is my mom's mother's day present. Unfortunately, she has yet to receive it. I sent it priority through the US postal service. BIG MISTAKE! I even paid extra for the delivery confirmation. They say it was delivered Friday before mother's day. She has never received the package. At this point, I just want it to show up. The bad thing is, my husband sent a mother's day card before I did, which she received. He earned major brownie points on this one. Knowing that I couldn't ship liquor, I brought her some Frida Kahlo Tequila when I went home recently as one of her gifts, but I wanted her to have something actually on mother's day. UGH! Anyway, the pattern is morning surf scarf knit out of Noro Kureyon. I don't remember the color.

Speaking of my mom, when she was here in February, we found this really cool, gigantic bowl to display my yarn in. Of course, she just had to buy it for me. And of course, I couldn't tell her no. My mom has really great taste btw.

See, she deserves the scarf! and more! Say a little prayer that it is delivered to my ever deserving mom!

She's one of the smartest people I know. She can do and think of almost anything. She has such class and style too! I want to be just like her when I grow up! Thanks mom for everything you do for our family! Like your homemade fried chicken, you're the BEST! I love you!

Forever Valentines!

YUMMY! I love all the sweet treats of Valentines day. These cute little petit fours are from Alessi, a local bakery. They make the best everything. We picked these up this past weekend when my Mom was in from Texas visiting.

BTW, Happy "Annaversary" to my Mom and Dad, and to my Aunt Tine and Uncle Jeff, and my great-aunt, Margie and her husband, Pete. Valentine's Day is for lovers in my family. Happy 1st Heart Day to my little handsome devil, Parker! Lastly, Forever Valentines are my husband and I! Love you BOB! Hope yours is a special treat whatever you do. We're laying low with a nice dinner at home followed by Elizabethtown.

We are going to Atlanta today for an XL Super Bowl party. I was hoping to finish this second sock that I have been working on, but I can't because I'm using metal Addi double points. So know I have nothing to knit on the airplane. Maybe I can cast on something really quick, but I have no idea what I want to start on the fly. ;-) [No pun intended] This stinks! I hope to visit a couple of yarn shops and eat at Pappasito's too while in Hotlanta! Yippee!

Remember this previous post. This was intended to be a Laptop Case from IK Fall 2005. Considering it was finished and felted just hours before we were to drive to Texas for Christmas, the handle was not cut out. So I used it as a gift bag for some of my mom's other gifts. She then decided it would make a cute clutch and put the horse pin on it. She's so smart ;-) (Mothers know everything.) Needless to say, she has received lots of compliments and inquiries. I used Cascade 220 in Color Nos. 7802, 7803,7830 and some leftover 8234.

Somehow, my mom ended up with my dad's knitted Christmas gift too! Can't imagine how that happened. I'm telling you, my mom's good like that. As we are driving those 14 hours home, I casted on and finished this hat that was intended for my dad. Nothing fancy, just two by two ribbing with Plymouth Baby Alpaca Grande in 403. It turns out to be too short for Dad (doesn't cover his ears.) So mom says let me try it on....you know where I'm going.

Mom: Oh, I want it!

Me: Okay. but it needs a cute pin.

She just so happens to have the perfect pin. Unfortunately, I have no pictures of mom in it. She was already sleeping. So, that's me the night before we were leaving. Haggard as hell, but worth every minute of it!

I finally found a copy! Actually, a really nice fellow knitter found it and gave me the lowdown. I first saw this on Andrea's Blog long before Christmas and was unable to locate one, but you can get one here. Now there are only three left. So you better hurry as these are no longer in print. Can't wait to knit something for Baby PJ's 1st birthday!

Santa Paws...........

I know I'm a little late on this, but better late than never. Rather than making something homemade for family and neighbors, I made dog treats for all their pets....they deserve it more anyway, right! Our neighbors on boths side have dogs. All of our immediate neighbors across the street have dogs..and there are several more in the addition that I know. Not to mention, my brother has two, my aunt has three, my other aunt has one, my in-laws have one, a good friend has two, and my little Guero.....

All in all, there were 84 dog treats for 19 dogs....Tex ate his share and his brothers too....these pets are soooooo good and loving all year. They absolutely deserve them and more...I have the best baby dog in the whole wide world! I tell him that all the time. ;-)

BTW, my husband tried the dog treats and said they would probably make good breakfast bars....here's the recipe if you want to try them.

Oatmeal Cookies for dogs (or humans if your Bob)
1 cup uncooked oatmeal
1/3 cup margarine
1 tsp canola oil
1 1/2 cups hot water
3/4 cup powdered milk
3/4 cup cornmeal
1 egg beaten
2 tsp grated apple
1 T brown sugar
3 cups whole wheat flour

Mix hot water, oatmeal, margarine, & oil. Let stand five minutes. Add milk, cornmeal, egg, apple, and brown sugar. Add flour 1/2 cup at a time, mixing well each time. Knead 3-4 minutes, adding more flour if necessary for stiff dough. Roll to 1/4 inch thick and cut with cookie cutter. Put on greased cookie sheet and bake at 325 for 50 minutes. Let dry until hard.

Bone appetite!

Right now I am working on a red Irish Hiking Scarf for this project, in which children that were in foster care but are now left to put themselves through college receive care packages like fellow classmates who have families....if you can, I really think this is a worthy project to participate in.

TREAT~

I finished my SYNO scarf for Kiri. She's made of 490 yards of Patons' Katrina in Ocean. She did see the ocean here in Florida on a few occasions. She also traveled to Alabama for an evacuation. She's probably ready to see her rightful owner in Indiana. I hope to send her out soon, if all goes well. YIKES. My big test is this Saturday, so I'm going to be swamped this week. Please be patient Kiri...I promise the "scarf's" in the mail!

I purchased my first pair of Addi Turbos. They're so smooth. I've never had a need for them, I thought, until now. WOW! I'm a knittin' fool!

I also frogged one of my first scarves for my mother and restarted it. More knitting and pictures to come after Saturday. I promise!

From the rooftops of Sydney, Australia to the shores of Tampa, Florida....what more could a girl ask for!

I couldn't ask for more either.....I JUST LOVE IT! Meg is an amazing knitter.....Amazingly fast as well. The leaves are the perfect reminder that fall is on the way....Although it may be a while yet, I'll be ready to sport my new scarf!

She also sent me this Australian knitting magazine...Thank you MEG! I want to try the Lunar Top. It's a cool crochet pattern....I haven't crocheted since my mom was....God, who knows when. I really like it...it says it's Italian inspired and can be worn over a t-shirt.....I just realized, that's it on the cover....really cute!

I hope to have pictures to post soon of the scarf I am knitting for Kiri. Along with the squares for the Linus Project.

It's been one helluva week......really busy at school....studying to take the RPR in November.........YIKES!

Just wanted to let my SYNO Pal know, I did receive her yarn and fragrant lotion.......thanks......I snuck in a little time to start your scarf........pictures to come soon.

Also, Meg I love your creativity...........my scarf may not want to come back to boring Florida.....I know I wouldn't.....she looks like she's enjoying herself. BTW, she's beautiful!!!!

Off to the airport to pick up my DH, he's been away all week on business.....can't wait to see him.

My first sweater......

I love it.....and her! It was easier than what I had anticipated. The pattern is from Suss Cousins' Hollywood Knits Style, Cozy Cardigan(that she gave me for christmas)....I used Cascade 220 (I gave my mom the ball band, so I don't remember the color) I think she really, really liked it. She wore it while I was there. A 100% wool sweater in the middle of July in Texas? Only a mother would do that. I want to make one for me too.

Not much knitting going on this week, as I've been really busy with school. I did start this scarf for my mom also.....it's silk yarn called Galaxy Twist from Tilli Tomas that I bought from Yarns 2 Ewe while I was back in Texas visiting. I really like it.......I may just keep it for myself......Just a little joke mom....only kidding! If you ever have a chance, you should go to Y2E.....they have a fabulous yarn selection, and the owner Wendy is really nice.

My Tuesday night knitting group is making a Linus Project Blanket. We are to knit three 9" squares each. I hope to start those this week. Also, I hope to get the yarn for my SYNO scarf soon.

Parker's 4 months today..........

My nephew turned 4 months old today.
He's the cutest thing ever. He's my first nephew and the first grandchild (probably the only) Need I say more.

Do you think we are crazy about him? Parker faces from left to right me, a picture, my mom, and my brother, and the infamous Parker has the wip umbilical cord cap on. We had soooooo much fun taking these pictures. I have the best family ever!!

Thanks little man for skipping school and staying with Honey for a week.....I sure do love you!!

I'm away visiting my family back in Texas. This little man has made my trip the best ever.
